Jim Gaskin - In Memoriam
Jim Gaskin, 28-year veteran of the Renfro Valley Barn Dance, passed away around 1:00 am on Sunday, May 3, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville, KY after a long illness.
Jim had been the host of the Renfro Valley Sunday Morning Gathering since 1983. The program, which went on the air in 1943, is one of the oldest continuous radio shows in America. Only two others have narrated the program: its founder Mr. John Lair and Mr. Grant Turner.
Funeral Arrangements for Jim Gaskin are being handled by Stith Funeral Home, Danville, KY, (859) 236-2113. The funeral home is located on Broadway between 3rd and 4th street downtown. Broadway is one block over from Main Street.
Visitation is Tuesday, May 6th from 3:00 PM to 8:00 or 9:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7th at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 1570 North Danville Bypass, Danville, KY.
