Glenn
Thompson
Glenn, a self-taught musician, began playing guitar at the age of six.
By the time he was eighteen, he was on the stage at Renfro Valley playing
the “Hootenanny!” He later joined the Barn Dance where, for
many years, he served as band leader. Then the call of the road coaxed
him to form his own band and tour with some of the greats such as George
Jones, Tammy Wynette, Ronnie Milsap, Hank Williams, Jr. and many others.
Later, Glenn returned to Renfro Valley to pick up where he left off.
He has won numerous awards from Renfro Valley for “Best Instrumentalist,” as
well as others.
He now has his own guitar shop in Mt. Vernon, KY, where he repairs,
sells and makes all kinds of instruments. Come visit him and his wife,
Retha, at his shop, you may even get to hear some of the great finger-pickin’ that
he’s so famous for.
Pick up his CD or cassette tape “Styles” at the Country
Music Store in the Renfro Valley Village. It includes all the various
styles of music, gospel, etc., that he loves to play.
